Now that spring has finally sprung, it is time to explore Salzburg’s surrounding mountains. A trip to the Gaisberg is the perfect opportunity for a short escape from the tourist hustle and bustle in the city centre and to enjoy the sun.
Nice to know about the Gaisberg
The Gaisberg is most famous for its circular walk. The 5-kilometre-long walk, 1,000 meters above sea level, is suitable for both kids and dogs. While walking, you can enjoy magnificent views over the city and on a clear day, you can even glance over the German border. Additionally, there are more challenging trails for experienced hikers forking from the circular trail.
Numerous inns on the Gaisberg serve traditional Austrian cuisine and ensure that no stomach remains empty after a day in the fresh air.
Insider tip:
The view is especially beautiful at sundown and for those who want the mountain just for their own, getting up for sunrise might be tempting.
Am amazing hike with breathtaking views
You can either start walking from the city centre or drive up the mountain by car. However, the road sometimes gets closed in summer, due to the high number of visitors. Taking the bus number 151 from Mirabellplatz is, therefore, probably the most convenient option. Have fun!
