As the New Year is approaching fast, it’s time to make your New Year’s resolutions. In case you are planning to do more sports in 2019, we have four running tracks in Salzburg to start with.
Along the Salzach:
Well, you probably came up with that one yourself. But here is an option to upgrade your route with a little workout: If you start running from the city centre southwards, make your way to Volksgarten. There, you can find a little outdoor gym including ten different training tools.
The tourist track:
If you want to combine jogging and sightseeing, this track might be something for you. Take the stairs in Mülln (Augustinerbräu) up Mönchsberg. From there, you can choose between different tracks. One of them even takes you up to the Fortress Hohensalzburg. The path is a little steep, so alternatively you might just want to take a nice walk. Length: approximately 6 km for the loop track
Hellbrunnerallee (the picture was taken in summer) is perfect for all runners who like flat, straight tracks. Starting from Schloss Freisaal a gravel path takes you out of the city centre through a more rural area all the way to beautiful Schloss Hellbrunn. While running, you might encounter horses and you will also pass the mansion where the Trapp family used to live. Arrived at Hellbrunn, you can have a look at the famous pavilion from the Sound of Music. For more information, read our blog post on Hellbrunn. Length: 6,5 km both ways
The Leopoldskron castle with its charming garden and pond is another popular area among joggers in Salzburg. The little forest next to the castle features a loop track (approximately 1 km) and a small outdoor gym. Tip: there is a small zoo open to everyone close by in Wolfgang-Schaffler-Weg. Among the animals are mostly farm animals but also a pink flamingo colony- perfect for giving your running track something special.
